just a quick mention regarding my brief encounters with Latin cinematic culture in the past week.Last week, spanish actor Paco León, who plays Luisma in the spanish sitcom Aída, came to Puerto Rico to promote his new film. Naturally, my eyes gleamed and my knees gave out at the thought of me standing in the same room as him. So, I showed up at the signing in Borders, only to stumble upon a sea of sweaty Puerto Ricans there for the same reason as me. I frankly thought I was the 1 of the total of 8 individuals on this island to watch that show. Turns out I was apparently 1 of the total of hundreds and hundreds of individuals who watched it. Well, i was not able to get anything signed, and even less take a picture with him. So, of course, I did the Charlie Brown walk out of Borders and into my mum's car.
Next day though, in the beginning of my film club meeting, i got brilliant news. The private premiere of the film was to be hosted in Fine Arts Café, an arthouse cinema in Hato Rey, and my teacher and I were invited, by our dearest friend with dearest connections. So, I called up mah gurrl Lorena Guzmán, and my mum of course, and we went to the premiere. I sat in the second row, and when he came in to give an introduction to his film (which was lovely by the way, se llama Dieta Mediterránea), he was exactly 2 feet directly in front of me. I died. Really.
I could not stop grinning and he noticed, and smiled. His final words were..
"Espero que ésta película les dé ganas de comer... y chingar"
oh , how i love the Spanish and their inappropriateness.
here's the video of his introduction to the film, enjoy
